The League of Women Voters has partnered with Power the Polls in a push to recruit new potential poll workers ahead of the November election. Across the country, election administrators are already reporting poll worker shortages. Women's Inequality Day
August 26, 2022

August 26, otherwise known as Women's Equality Day, marks the anniversary of the certification of the 19th amendment, which granted some women the right to vote.

Yet in 2022, women have fewer rights than they've had in decades. This year, we're acknowledging Women's Inequality Day, uniting to demand that lawmakers restore and protect our rights by:
  1. Passing voting rights legislation;
  2. Adding the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution; and
  3. Restoring reproductive rights to women and those who can become pregnant.

Follow us on TwitterInstagram or Facebook to help us spread the word on August 26th by sharing #WomensInequalityDay across your social networks.

California incarcerates Black people at 9x the rate of white people
Take Action: pass the Racial Justice Act for All

Racial discrimination in our courts is never harmless. California is one of the worst states in the U.S. for racial disparities in mass incarceration. In California, a Black man is over eight times more likely to be incarcerated than a white man. This hurts not just the individual, it hurts the community, and it hurts our system of justice. Urge your Senator to pass AB256 California Racial Justice Act For ALL.

LWVP Book Club | Laboratories of Autocracy
August 16, 2022 at 5pm

Join us for our August, 2022 book club meeting where we will discuss Laboratories of Autocracy: A Wake-Up Call from Behind the Lines by David Pepper.

David Pepper’s Laboratories of Autocracy shows that far more than the high-profile antics of national politicians, it’s anonymous, often corrupt politicians in statehouses across the country who pose the greatest dangers to American democracy. Amid all the chaos, these statehouses are hard at work, every day, hacking away at core principles and protections of our democratic system. And they’re getting more audacious every year.

Laboratories of Autocracy outlines 30 steps that must be undertaken, from federal action that must be taken immediately to steps every citizen can take to help fight back in their own community.

The book club discussion is open to the public - you don't have to be a League member. We hope you'll join us!
