| Wildfire Mitigation in the Bay Area: What Can Be Done?
Wednesday, September 7th at 4pm PT | Please join the League of Women Voters of Piedmont and Piedmont Connect on Wednesday, September 7th, 2022 at 4pm for a discussion with Sara Paul of Watch Duty, a non-profit founded in the wildlands of Sonoma County to provide real-time push notifications about wildfires in California.
Sara is a dynamic speaker who will help us to understand the real wildfire risks (to life, property, health, etc.) in the era of accelerating climate disruption. Her talk will include tips for identifying wildfire vulnerabilities in our homes and landscape, evacuation planning, and staying informed as events develop. | | | When: Wednesday, September 7th, 2022 at 4pm PT

| California Women Win the Vote
Tuesday, September 6th at 7pm PT | The League of Women Voters Eden Area will be holding a free educational program describing how women in California won the right to vote. The program will include a short introductory film, "Women Vote, Women Win; Why I Vote” by the National Women’s History Museum.

Saturday, September 10th, 2:30 – 4:00pm PT | This event is sponsored by the Santa Clara County Leagues of Women Voters. Learn from an expert panel on the challenges of policing and ensuring fair treatment. The panel will discuss objectives of law enforcement organizations, accountability, response to societal racism, unique US armed environment, ‘Protect & Serve’ vs tendency towards militarization, community responsibilities, what is a better way going forward?

Monday, September 12th at 7:30pm PT | This program is presented by the League of Women Voters Berkeley Albany Emeryville. Emma Brower will be presenting some general information about The Nature Conservancy, their External Affairs efforts in the California State Legislature, a recent victory on plastic pollution in the ocean, and their broader oceanic program.

| | | A Climate-Resilient and Equitable Water Future for California
Thursday, September 22th at 6pm PT | The League of Women Voters of San Francisco would like to invite you to join them for the next of a “Spotlight On” series of educational events: A Climate-Resilient and Equitable Water Future for California. This is the first of two events that LWVSF will be hosting on water in California, a pressing issue as California and the Bay Area struggle with climate change, drought, and water crisis. This first event will cover the history of water systems and infrastructure in California, demand and what needs to change, and visions for responding to future water use and needs.

Where: online via Zoom | | | Featured speaker Dr. Newsha Ajami is the Chief Strategy and Development Officer for Research in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Area at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and a mayoral appointee to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. A member of the League of Women Voters of California’s Water Committee will discuss the League’s positions on water resources, what we are doing to support these positions, and what issues we are monitoring and actions we are recommending.

Two years ago, you helped us pass the Racial Justice Act to combat discrimination based on race, ethnicity, or national origin in criminal sentences and convictions. Now we need your help to extend the Racial Justice Act to ensure that it protects all Californians. AB 256 will soon be on the Governor's desk – tell Governor Newsom to sign the Racial Justice Act for All into law!
