This year the LWV Diablo League has again partnered with St. Mary’s College to develop online videos that voters can watch to help them make informed decisions. This webinar will show these videos as well as share additional information about tools available to the community including Voter’s Edge and Ballotpedia.

What Lies Ahead for Ukraine? Current Situation and Prospects
Wednesday, November 2nd at 5pm PT
Please join us on Wednesday, November 2nd at 5pm Pacific time for a presentation and Q&A with former Ambassador Steven Pifer. Before Russia’s invasion, Ambassador Pifer correctly predicted that Putin would attack and that Ukrainians would fight back - hard. 
 
He is an expert on arms control and disarmament and is perfectly situated to assess possible nuclear escalation in Ukraine. He will present insights on the political and military situation in Ukraine, as well as the most likely trajectory for the war.

The Alameda County Council of the League of Women Voters is sponsoring a panel discussion "Roe v. Wade 2022 & Beyond" on Thursday, November 3rd at 7:00 pm.

The panelists are Stacy Cross, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, and Nakia Woods, Project Director California Coalition for Reproductive Freedom.

The League of Women Voters of Piedmont is pleased to welcome our Fall 2022 intern, Madelyn Hill. Maddy is already hard at work helping organize and promote a mock election at Piedmont and Millennium High Schools. 

LWVP's internship programs provides students with the opportunity to make a difference in their community and engage their fellow students in the democratic process. Our interns learn skills to become effective communicators and leaders while taking action to better our community.

Resources for our community
Are you concerned about housing in Piedmont or wish you knew more about where the City of Piedmont is in the state-mandated Housing Element process? Here are four great resources to learn about the Housing Element and more generally about the Bay Area's housing crisis.

LWVP held a forum on affordable housing in Piedmont on October 5, 2021 with panelists Melissa Breach, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at California YIMBY (Yes In My Backyard), Rani Batra, Chair of Piedmont's Housing Advisory Committee and a Piedmont Planning Commissioner, and Gloria Bruce, Executive Director of East Bay Housing Organization.

LWVP hosted a program on March 2, 2021 with Dr. Margot Kushel, the Director of the UCSF Center of Vulnerable Populations who identified the three root causes of homelessness: 1) lack of extremely low income housing, 2) income inequality, 3) the impact of structural racism. Homelessness is NOT caused by mental health instability and substance abuse. "We know what solves homelessness -- almost everyone can be housed if they have access to housing they can afford."
