Jacobson a Stanford scientist who has transitioned to fossil-free living personally, and also happens to be a global expert on the technologies and policies that can deliver us from fossil pollution.

| | | Creating A Culture of Belonging: Student Perspectives on Inclusion/Exclusion
Monday, March 20, 2023 @ 7pm PT | | The Piedmont Affinity mentors invite you to build a more inclusive Piedmont. High School students will share their personal experiences with prejudice, discuss the current culture of “othering” and system of hierarchy at Piedmont schools, and confront the persistent use of slurs and other forms of microaggression. Our panelists and moderators will offer ideas on how the families in our community can be allies as we continue to build a culture of belonging in Piedmont. This event is for everyone who lives or works in Piedmont.

| | | Dr. Daniel Sperling shares information to give us hope about electric vehicles | |
Dr. Daniel Sperling of UC Davis joined the League of Women Voters of Piedmont, California to talk about the impact of Electric Vehicles (EVs) on carbon reduction in California and globally. This presentation was the penultimate in the six part 2022-23 Climate Speaker Series by Piedmont Connect and the League of Women Voters of Piedmont. This event was cosponsored by the Leagues of Women Voters of Solano County, CA and Portland, OR.
| | | LWVP Supports Piedmont's Readmont | | The League of Women Voters of Piedmont contributed to the funding of books donated by Piedmont's Title IX Celebration Committee for this year's Readmont. The League at the national level, worked for passage of Title IX and has since focused on thwarting congressional attempts to dilute it.
We have advocated locally for Title IX compliance as an ongoing, active process with improvement reviews conducted on a regular basis. We are pleased to enhance the education of young Piedmont readers through this program and hope the young adult selection of No Stopping Us Now by Lucy Jane Bledsoe will help inspire some future activists.
| | | Watch "Equity in The Bay" – Bay Area League Day 2023 | | The League of Women Voters of the Bay Area's annual Bay Area League Day was help on March 4, 2023 via Zoom. The program, titled Equity in the Bay Area, featured speakers on housing, healthcare, transportation and more.
| | | State Senator Skinner and Assemblymember Wicks speak about equitable funding for CA school facilities. | As part of its annual legislative interview process, the League of Women Voters of Piedmont together with other local Leagues, participated in interviews of California State Senator Nancy Skinner and State Assemblymember Buffy Wicks. Legislative interviews are an opportunity for legislators to share their priorities with local Leagues and develop an understanding of League positions and priorities.
This article highlights the second topic covered in those interviews covering the following questions.
"Dependence on property taxes means that to fund school construction/modernization, taxpayers in districts with low property value per student must pay a far higher property tax rate than those in wealthier districts to raise the same amount of money per student. Would you advocate for changes to the School Facilities Program to reduce this inequity? One way to do this would be to have the School Facilities Program structured so that the required match percentage from a school district is reduced for low-wealth districts."
