The State of Local Journalism and Why We Should Care
Thursday, May 16 @ 4pm PT
Newspaper stands
Local journalism, as many have known it, seems to have disappeared. The polarizing and often inaccurate cries of 'fake news" and rise of so-called 'news deserts' with no local news outlets have led to a public crisis of confidence in news reporting. The presenters will dissect these challenges and offer practical hands-on solutions that people can use to be more news media literate, better informed about local issues, and motivate their civic engagement.

When: Thursday, May 16 @ 4pm PT
Where: online via Zoom

Professors and authors Mickey Huff and Nolan Higdon, from Diablo Valley College and Project Censored will lead this discussion. Susan Hildreth, League of Women Voters Diablo Valley will moderate this webinar.

LWVP - Community Partner at Food Fest
The 3rd annual Piedmont Food Fest attracted more than 2,300 attendees on Saturday, April 20. Organizer Roger Tsai invited LWVP to join other community partners in the Community Circle, at this multicultural festival. Through food, drink, music and performances the festival celebrated the Bay Area's diversity. LWVP board members Anita Stapen, Linda McClain, Jennifer Trainor, and Jennifer Nixon took turns welcoming Food Fest attendees at the red, white, and blue LWVP table.

We registered several voters new to the area, answered many questions from curious children ("What do people vote on, anyway?"), encouraged enthusiastic teens to register when they can... and handed out some candy. We really enjoyed connecting with the community, and encouraging folks to join the League!
