Panelists share how carbon pricing can drastically reduce carbon emissions.

Published on 9/24/2021

When a Nobel Laureate in economics tells you that tax on cigarettes absolutely led to reduction in cigarette sales and that carbon pricing would have a similar effect on carbon emissions, you should probably believe him!

The League of Women Voters of Piedmont held, on September 22, 2021, a panel discussion on carbon pricing. Piedmont Mayor Teddy King kicked off the event by explaining why battling climate change is important to her and what steps the City of Piedmont has taken to reduce its carbon emissions. Panelists Anne Infeld, Daniel McFadden, Danny Richter, and Mike Mielke presented information about the pressing need to reduce carbon emissions, the economic effects of carbon pricing, its political implications, and why businesses are on board with carbon pricing.

While carbon pricing may not be the silver bullet to solve our climate crisis, it can certainly be a large piece of the puzzle and together with other policies can help ensure our children and grandchildren can live on a habitable planet.
